New mural downtown urges viewers to “open your heart”

A 28 foot by 22 foot photographic mural will soon grace the south wall of the former Strand Theater, which now houses Roots – The Restaurant, and faces Washington Street and Rutland City Hall, joining three sculptures on the Rutland Sculpture Trail and two other murals in the Center Street Marketplace in downtown Rutland.

New Home, New Patio: Roots Grows in the Marketplace Park

Billings opened Roots in 2011 on Wales Street in downtown Rutland. Roots gained popularity with a farm fresh menu and creative, original entrees, drawing patrons from in-and-out of state. After its move in December, Roots opened with twice the seats in the Center Street Marketplace Park on Washington Street, where Billings describes it as “bigger and better.”
