Rutland Winter Fest is back.

“In 2020, we were able to get the full, large Winter Fest eight days of packed events, and then the pandemic of course happened,” said April Cioffi, a program director at Rutland Recreation and Parks Department. “So, we are building back up to that 2020 robust full schedule and I do see it headed that way, especially next year.”

After a two-year break, the event has been happening all week. Open skating at the Giorgetti Arena was held Friday night, with free rentals and ice time with hot chocolate and snacks. All of this, with a special guest, big foot. The creature joined in the fun.

“He has been around with our other events as well,” Cioffi said. “So, it's kind of our theme throughout and I believe the Yeti will also make an appearance.”

On Saturday afternoon, the Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum is hosting the Winter Dance for Loved Ones And Little Ones.

“We have a fantastic DJ who plays all of the kid's favorite songs and even passes the mic around,” said Danielle Monroe, executive director of the Wonderfeet Kids' Museum. “So everyone gets to sing along if they want to.”

Everyone is encouraged to get dressed up, and organizers hope everyone that comes will make life-long memories.

“It is all about kids and parents being able to spend quality time together,” Monroe said. “And the really special growth and learning that happens when you're doing something fun with a grownup who really cares for you. And the dance is just part of that. It's really creating special memories.”

On Saturday night, guests can enjoy the “Real Rutland Feud,” a take on the TV game show “Family Feud.” Ten teams on stage at the Paramount Theatre will compete for the trophy.

“We create an opportunity for families to come together, enjoy some fun and laughter, and also help benefit the community,” said Chrispin White, member services and events manager at the Chamber and Economic Development of the Rutland Region. “And we construct the questions in a way that, you know, generate some really interesting, fun and exciting answers.”

The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $30. All proceeds go towards Rutland’s marketing initiative.

“It's a great opportunity to bring the community together to have them come and support their businesses and organizations where they know a lot of people who are involved in the show, and really just to have a nice, fun community evening in downtown Rutland,” White said.

All events are family-friendly and open to anyone in the community.
