77Art welcomes "Estate Sale" Exhibition

Excerpts from Estate Sale - New work by Corrine Yonce

77ART (59-67 Merchants Row) welcomes Corrine Yonce with an excerpt from her solo exhibition, "Estate Sale". Her work will be viewable 24 hours a day in our windows from November 22nd - January 15th.

From the artist:

“Home,” especially as it bumps against the private/public, threads my art, my community projects, my employment. My paintings and installations depict figures lounging, laying, and leaning on one another in domestic interiors. The foregrounded female figure is often enlarged and warped into the first-person “i” perspective, prioritizing her in the tight interior. The figures perform contemporary narratives of home leisure, often branded with the pervasive icon of the smartphone or tablet.

My work considers the intimacies of home-space and the figures sharing that space. I start with small, journal-drawings from observation but inflate those ideas into larger-than-life figures. These sketches squeeze into the quiet moments within the flurry of daily life. The paintings reach for domestic reference points both in content and in material, hanging like drapes and featuring puddling mops & reflective mirrors. I integrate household objects with a sense of humor, reverence, and shame. Like my experience of home, the works are messy and imperfect. The vibrancy of color gives voice to the joyfulness and subtleties of melancholy that I document both in my daily experiences and from within the community I work alongside as a housing advocate.
