The Downtown Rutland Partnership has a small staff of 2 and a half that, with the support of our community, works hard to make our downtown a vibrant and inviting home for locally-owned businesses. We’re the cheerleaders and the support system for our downtown businesses. We partner with area organizations that host events that help to draw thousands of people each year to Downtown Rutland. No two days are ever the same, and that’s part of the excitement and the reward. Below you’ll find information on two roles that we are currently hiring for. Position: Events and Business Development & Support Manager

Purpose of Position:

The Marketing and Events coordinator works directly with the Executive Director, downtown merchants and property owners, and volunteers to support the mission to manage, market, and maintain the Downtown Rutland Special Benefits District. This is a full-time, year-round position with benefits.

Qualifications & Experience

•  Degree in business, community development, public administration or a related field, or 3 years equivalent experience

•  Event planning experience

•  Strong written and verbal skills

•. Experience with email communication platforms

•  Ability to work independently 

•  Strong time management and organizational skills

•  Excellent professional interpersonal communication skills, including experience with and comfort in interacting with business owners, sponsors, and key city stakeholders

•  Ability to manage multiple projects while upholding a high attention to detail and meeting project deadlines

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

Outreach:

•  Communicate with downtown business via door to door, phone/email, newsletters, and committee meetings

•  Help to generate content for social media, a monthly newsletter, and e-blasts

•  Assist the Executive Director in identifying and securing sources of revenue such as sponsorships, advertising, and income from events

•  Analyze and report on grant programs and special benefit district businesses

•  Assist businesses’ in understanding what resources are available to them including grants and loans

•  Stay informed of relevant city, state, and federal grant opportunities for small businesses

•  Keep the DRP website’s list of available space updated

•  Work with community partners and the ED to connect potential businesses to available space downtown

Special Events:

•  Lead in the planning and execution of Special Events for the Downtown district

•  Coordinate with vendors, merchants and community organizations

Social Media & Branding

•  Assist social media communications across multiple platforms

•  Stay informed about local events, business news, and other potential content

•  Photography and editing skills a plus

Website

•  Ensure information on the Downtown Rutland website is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant

Salary: $39,000-41,000





Position: Streetscape Coordinator



Job Description 

The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain the cleanliness of sidewalks and the urban environment within Rutland Vermont’s designated downtown district. This is a seasonal, part-time position averaging 25 hours per week through October, with flexibility on the schedule. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

● Operates sidewalk sweeper and removes street litter to maintain cleanliness of downtown sidewalks. 

● Participates in various maintenance and cleaning projects, such as painting, weeding, repotting, washing and trash pick-up to help keep downtown looking attractive. 

● Identifies and reports potential hazards or areas in need of repair to keep public spaces safe, including upkeep of trash receptacles and cigarette butlers. 

● Works closely with volunteers and community partners to help oversee and coordinate streetscaping projects and initiatives. 

Additional duties 

● Assists in seasonal decorating projects. 

● Assists with occasional event setup and cleanup. 

Requirements 

● Must be able to be on feet for several hours at a time. 

● Must be able to bend, lift, pull, reach and other tasks related to cleaning and repair work that require physical movement. 

● Must be an effective and polite communicator with DRP staff, downtown businesses, and the public. 

● Must have a valid driver’s license. 

Education, Experience & Skills 

● Must be detail oriented, focused, reliable and able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Compensation: $17/hour
