Uber Eats and Door Dash are food delivery platforms that allows people to find good food in their local area. The process is quick and easy for everyone involved: you list your restaurant and menu on the platform; customers in your area can find you and order from your menu using their phone or computer; and then a delivery driver will pick it up from you and drop it off at their door.

One of the main advantages of using a food delivery platform for delivery is the option for no-contact delivery, a safe option for both your customer and the delivery driver during the Covid-19 crisis. Both platforms claim that most orders come from new customers, expanding your reach into new markets that haven’t made it into your dining room before.

Uber Eats vs. Door Dash

Both platforms are similar in what they offer but the bottom line comes down to how much they charge in fees and commissions.

How much will Delivery cost my business?

Uber Eats typically charges setup fee and commission. The $350 one-time setup fee includes a welcome kit, tablet, restaurant software, and professional photo shoot. A service fee is calculated as a percentage of each restaurant order made through Uber Eats, which usually comes out to 30%. Uber Eats is currently waiving the delivery fee and temporarily waiving the activation fee for independent restaurants.

Door Dash typically charges around 20% in commission fees (exact price depends on the restaurant). Starting April 13th, DoorDash's commission relief program is cutting commission fees in half through the end of May. Door Dash is also offering a free trial for the first 30 days of usage with no fees, making now the perfect time to try out the platform.
