Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain the cleanliness of sidewalks and the urban environment within Rutland Vermont’s designated downtown district. A major component of this role includes the operation of a sidewalk sweeping machine. This is a seasonal, part-time position averaging 15 hours per week with flexibility on the schedule.

  • Operates sidewalk sweeping machine to maintain cleanliness of downtown sidewalks.

  • Participates in various maintenance and cleaning projects, such as painting, weeding, shoveling, washing and trash pick up in order to help keep downtown looking attractive.

  • Identifies and reports potential hazards or areas in need of repair to keep public spaces safe.

  • Attends streetscape committee meetings to share updates and suggestions.

  • Supervises and guides volunteers on cleanup and streetscape related projects.

Additional duties

  • Operates and cares for the organization’s pick up truck which includes cleaning the interior and scheduling maintenance appointments.

  • Assists in seasonal decorating projects.

  • Assists with occasional event setup and cleanup.

Requirements

  • Must be able to be on feet for several hours at a time.

  • Must be able to push small machinery for an extended period of time.

  • Must be able to bend, lift, pull, reach and other tasks related to cleaning and repair work that require physical movement.

  • Must be an effective and polite communicator with DRP staff, downtown businesses, volunteers and the public.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Education, Experience & Skills

  • High school diploma required.

  • Must be detail oriented, focused, and able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Compensation: $12/hour
